1. X-Men 1.5 (2000)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Because the extras mark the only real improvements found in X-Men 1.5, I have to aim my recommendation toward folks who love that stuff.

2. X-Men [Blu-Ray] (2000)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: After nine years, X-Men remains a lot of fun, as it launches the franchise on a lively and entertaining note. It doesn’t quite live up to the heights of something like Spider-Man, but it succeeds for the most part. The Blu-ray provides positive picture, very good audio and adds a slew of very interesting and useful supplements. This turns into a nice rel

3. Straw Dogs [Blu-Ray] (2011)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Although I don’t view the 2011 Straw Dogs as a bad film, it does seem fairly pointless. The ways it alters the 1971 original tend to neuter it and make it less effective. It still has some decent value as a standard thriller, but it lacks the same punch to the gut as the first one. The Blu-ray comes with good picture and audio as well as a set of supplem

4. Sonic the Hedgehog [Blu-Ray] (2020)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: As family entertainment, Sonic the Hedgehog tends to play it safe, but that doesn’t seem like a terrible choice. With just enough sass to amuse adults, the film becomes a fairly likable kid-friendly flick. Starring James Marsden, Jim Carrey. Paramount, $31.99, 5/19/2020.

5. Westworld: Season One [4K UHD] (2016)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: A deft mix of science-fiction, Western and character drama, Westworld opens up its material well. The series boasts opt-notch talent and production values to develop into a rich tale of humanity and morality. Starring Thandie Newton, Jeffrey Wright. Warner, $54.97, 11/7/2017.

7. 2 Guns [4K UHD] (2013)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Despite a strong cast, 2 Guns never turns into anything memorable. Although its stars make it watchable, the end product lacks the kick it needs to become better than average. Starring Denzel Washington, Mark Wahlberg. Universal, $29.98, 8/1/2023.

8. Robot & Frank (2012)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: When I went into Robot & Frank, I feared that it’d degenerate into a maudlin vision of elderly dementia. Happily, it avoids those trappings to deliver a warm, gently amusing character piece. The DVD comes with acceptable picture and audio as well as an enjoyable commentary. Plop this one in the “recommended” file. Starring Frank Langella, James Marsden.

9. The Box (2009)
Reviewed by Colin Jacobson: Richard Kelly scored a memorable cult hit with Donnie Darko, but lightning fails to strike again with The Box. Too long, too silly and too idiotic, the movie mishandles an intriguing premise and turns into an incoherent piece of semi-intellectual blather. The DVD provides erratic visuals, reasonably good audio, and almost no supplements. If you’re a die-
